The Future of Population in AsiaIn 2002, the East-West Center published The Future of Population in Asia, a comprehensive report that summarizes and analyzes important population and health issues in the region. This 150-page publication is intended for policymakers, political leaders, business leaders, research specialists, teachers, and others with an interest in Asia and in global population issues. The objective is to increase awareness of population trends in Asia and their critical global social and economic implications. Funding was provided by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Written by East-West Center specialists drawing upon their own wealth of experience in the region as well as information and projections from the United Nations and national governments, the report covers the period from 1950 to 2050. Discussions of current issues and future trends are accompanied by suggestions for policymakers.
